Ukrainian drone attack on refinery in central Russia

March 15 (Reuters) – Ukraine carried out a drone attack on a refinery in the Kaluga region of central Russia on Friday morning, causing damage the extent of which remains to be determined, Reuters learned from a source within Ukrainian intelligence.

The operation was led by the Directorate of Military Intelligence (GUR) of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the same source said.

Since last week, Kyiv has increased drone attacks against Russian oil infrastructure.

The private refinery targeted on Friday, of modest size, is located about 65 kilometers from the suburbs of Moscow. Its annual production is equivalent to 1.2 million tonnes, or some 24,000 barrels per day.
