Known for his sometimes violent hoaxes, Ulcan was sentenced to a prison sentence. He is now settled in Israel.

Gregory Chelli, alias Ulcan, was sentenced on Tuesday to two and a half years of imprisonment, after being convicted by the Paris Criminal Court of having orchestrated a whole series of telephone hoaxes assimilated to ” swatting », Between 2014 and 2016. While he lives in Israel and an arrest warrant has been issued against him, his lawyer announces his intention to appeal.

Ulcan, absent from his trial, sentenced and under an arrest warrant

Specifically, Ulcan was convicted of fourteen offenses. He was therefore sentenced to a prison sentence, but also to pay 18,000 euros in damages to the victims, in addition to a slate of 9,250 euros in legal costs to be honored. This is much more than what the prosecution demanded, which proposed two years in prison.

The 39-year-old hacker was the subject of four cases for malicious calls, slanderous denunciations and death threats, symbolized by telephone hoaxes in very bad taste, not to say violent. This is called the ” swatting “, from ” serious facts »Committed to harm the victims. Some hoaxes have required very significant police resources, on the basis of false denunciation.

Gregory Chelli did not show up for trial last December. If he lives in Ashdod, near Tel Aviv, his defense criticized a summons that was not sent in the rules of the art. And no one represented him either on Tuesday, when the decision was announced. This will not prevent his lawyer from appealing, because that is his wish.

Hackers and hoaxes that go wrong, very wrong

Ulcan has an “impressive” track record. In 2014, he passed himself off as Martine Aubry’s husband, telling the police that he had killed his wife and that he was entrenched and armed. At the time, he wanted to make the former minister pay for the break in the twinning between the city of Lille, of which she is the mayor, and an Israeli city. In the same year, a man had to undress in front of several representatives of the police force. Ulcan had passed off the individual as a tattooed skinhead who had just murdered his wife after the latter had stabbed her baby to death.

Sentenced five times, the hacker, who considers himself a Zionist activist, faces a new criminal case, after a hoax against a journalist from Street 89 who had dedicated a portrait to him. This time, he contacted the reporter’s parents to make them believe he was dead. Just days after the phone calls, the journalist’s dad died of a heart attack.

He also risks conviction for his misdeeds towards websites. Release and of Radio France, which he had hacked a few years ago.
