UN High Commissioner for Human Rights wants to visit Iran

Nov 24 (Reuters) – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, said on Thursday he had asked the Iranian authorities to be allowed to visit the country, saying he had not received a response.

“I have engaged with the Iranian authorities,” he told reporters at the UN Human Rights Council meeting on Iran. “I even asked to go to Iran, but I did not receive an answer,” he added.

Volker Türk had previously described the situation in Iran as a “total crisis” in the country, shaken by a wave of protests and bloody repression since the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman of 22, on September 16 in Tehran.
