UN Security Council supports Gaza truce plan

Ex-hostage, whose husband died in captivity in Gaza, is angry with the Israeli government

Tami Metzger, a former Hamas hostage, believes that “if the government [israélien] had stopped the war »her husband, Yoram, kidnapped with her on October 7, 2023 from Kibbutz Nir Oz, would still be alive. “I’m angry, they have no heart”, she adds to Agence France-Presse about Israeli leaders. The Israeli army announced last week the death of four hostages held in Gaza, including Yoram Metzger, 80 years old. Mme Metzger, 79, was released on November 28, 2023, thanks to a one-week truce between Israel and Hamas.

When she was released, she said she didn’t have time to really say goodbye to her husband. “They didn’t allow me to (…) touch him or talk to him”she remembers. “He shouted to me “leave, the children are waiting for you”, I had no choice but to leave and I never saw him again. »

Mme Metzger does not hide his resentment towards the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, “who quickly ran to speak to the ex-hostages” who were released on Saturday. “When we came out, not a word, no one spoke to us”she laments.

On Saturday evening, Mr. Netanyahu went to meet the freed hostages at the hospital and made numerous statements to welcome their return and congratulate the security forces for this operation. The same evening, Ayala Metzger, daughter-in-law of Tami Metzger and one of the figures of the anti-government protest, demonstrated in Tel Aviv, like every week, to demand an agreement to release the hostages and “bring down the government”.
