Google’s flagship will be presented tomorrow, during the Pixel brand’s annual mass. However, tradition has it that many rumors circulate about him, and some of them are now (almost) confirmed.

Yesterday, YouTube channel PBKreviews gave us an unboxing of a brand new Pixel 8, giving us a better look at the device. In the process, the Pixel 8 Pro also had its moment in the spotlight, with the added bonus of some data on its technical characteristics. Tensor G3, RAM and GPU have thus been confirmed, and it is now more difficult to list what we do not know about this smartphone than the reverse.

The same, but less bright

The Pro version of the Pixel 8 looks a lot like last year’s, except for two details. First of all, as we can see in his video, PBKreviews received the version with a matte black chassis. Unlike the standard Pixel 8, which will be all glossy and, surely, a real fingerprint magnet.

The photo block is the same color, but just as bright as that of the Pixel 7 Pro. However, this year Google decided to thicken it a bit, and we can say that it forms a pretty impressive bump. It remains to be hoped that the cases compatible with the Pixel 8 will make the whole thing smoother so that it can be slipped into a pocket with as few snags as possible.

Finally, this is an opportunity to remind you that this imposing block will house three cameras: a main 50 megapixel camera, a 48 megapixel telephoto lens with x5 optical zoom and an ultra-wide 48 megapixel camera, compared to 12 for the Pixel 7 Pro. . Finally, this year’s little bonus: we will find a temperature sensor, the usefulness of which is still quite unclear.

Characteristics revised upwards, but without real revolution

Alongside this unboxing, technical characteristics have also been confirmed by This Is Tech Today. As expected, the Tensor G3 which will power the Pixel 8 Pro will be equipped with 9 cores, including a main Cortex-X3 core clocked at 2.91 GHz, 4 Cortex-A715 cores clocked at 2.37 GHz and 4 Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.37 GHz. at 1.7 GHz. Everything is engraved in 4 nanometers and is accompanied by an FO-WLP packaging process, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of the whole and generate less heat.

This processor will work in tandem with a Mali-G715 GPU from Arm, an improved version of the Mali-G710 present in the Pixel 7 Pro. The version tested here is equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. But on this last aspect, we still do not know if the Pixel 8 Pro will support UFS 4.0 or opt for the slower UFS 3.1, for the sake of economy.

The leaks and rumors were therefore very close to reality, and Google’s flagship will be relatively more efficient than its predecessor. This year, the company seems to be focusing on artificial intelligence with the Tensor G3, which should particularly improve the camera’s photo capabilities.

However, while it is possible that these leaks are not entirely accurate, it seems that Apple and Google have, once again, decided not to play in the same league. Flagship versus flagship, the performance of the Pixel 8 Pro will, in many ways, be inferior to that of the iPhone 15 Pro. The price difference will be of the same ilk, since if one should be offered at nearly 899 euros, the other is already sold at 1,229 euros.

The Pixel range should therefore still assert itself as a sort of anti-iPhone, which does not make it uninteresting. This is why we are impatiently awaiting the Google conference, tomorrow at 4 p.m. sharp (Paris time), which you will be able to follow with us during a live broadcast offered by the Clubic editorial team on X.com.
