Uncharted 5 definitely dead? A huge leak that will divide

The month of February has barely started and the world of video games is already offering us some very nice surprises and rumors concerning future big projects. This time it concerns Uncharted. Just that…

Right now is a crazy time for fans of the Naughty Dog studio. Indeed, a few days ago (at the time of writing this news), Neil Druckmann himself revealed that a The Last of Us 3 was in preparation. It didn’t take much to completely shake up the Internet. And since good news never comes alone, now we have the right to a very big rumor concerning Uncharted. Enough to shake up the hearts of many players even more.

Uncharted, a return with great fanfare

Despite the great success of previous installments, the Uncharted game series has not benefited from a new title since the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in 2017, almost seven years ago. This prolonged absence raises legitimate questions about the future of the franchise. However, recent news has sparked new hope among many fans. Or not.

Indeed, according to details revealed during a recent episode of the XboxEra podcast, Nick Baker and John Clarke, co-founders of this podcast, revealed encouraging news regarding the development of a new Uncharted game. They specifically mentioned a full remake of the first game in the series, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, launched in 2007, currently in preparation for the PS5. Although the project is not entirely guaranteed to come to fruition, Baker noted that it is “at at the very least, considered with great seriousness“.

The TLOU remake on PS5. Imagine the same work on Uncharted 1.

Information to be taken with a pinch of salt

Details regarding this remake appear reliable, with Baker and Clarke claiming to have received information from independent sources and seen evidence to support their claims. However, the identity of the development studio remains uncertain. And, following journalistic practices, the protection of sources is essential… We must therefore be content with this information for the moment. The available information does not specify whether Naughty Dog, the historic developer of the series, or Bluepoint Games, which worked on Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in 2015, are involved in this project.

In any case, we can very well envisage work very close to what was done with The Last of Us Part 1 and the PS5 remake last August. Namely slightly modernized gameplay and totally sublimated graphics, notably inspired by the work of The Last of Us Part 2. What is certain is that if this remake is real, it risks dividing, given that everyone (or almost) is waiting for a fifth episode of Uncharted.

Finally, just to add a little mystery (or suspicion) to all this, let’s remember that Neil Druckmann himself announced that the studio was finished with Uncharted. Perhaps he was only talking about the potential Uncharted 5 in his comments and not about a remake? All that remains is to wait to find out for sure.
