Under the influence on Netflix: the risky preparation of the actors for the film

In “Under Control”, available on Netflix, Camille Rowe and Sofiane Zermani bring drama to life in the world of apnea. For the purposes of the film, the actors went through training.

Carried by Camille Rowe and Sofiane Zermani, Under the influence of David Rosenthal follows the meeting of a diver and a young student in the world of apnea. The film, dedicated to freediver Audrey Mestre, who died on October 12, 2002, is above all a drama about the mechanism of toxic and abusive relationships. The discipline visible in the feature film is called “no limit” apnea.

Much more dangerous than classic apnea, it consists of going as deep as possible. The aquatic sequences are performed by the actors themselves. For the sake of security, the team was monitored and subjected to specific training. Rehearsals began three months before filming began.

Stéphane Misfud, world record holder in static apnea and multiple times champion, supervised the training of the actors. César Domboy, who plays Tom, a scuba diver, did a one-week internship in Brittany to obtain a special qualification.

In a portrait dedicated to him in the columns of the World, he admits to being afraid of water. “I don’t like the sea, I don’t like the ocean, I didn’t even swim properly before”, he says. Wanting at all costs to do without a double, the actor wanted to be as credible as possible.

On this shoot, it was the first time in my life that I put on flippershe explains. I had never jumped out of a boat before. The guys explained to me from the beginning: ‘There’s a thing with apnea, it’s that you leave everything on the surface.’” He pursues : “I reached 35 meters in apnea, because the guys made me want to, because it’s a crazy discipline. I’m just waiting to dive back in. I want to go back there.”
