A first social gesture after the conflicting sequence of the pension reform. The government sent the social partners a draft decree proposing to authorize “exceptionally in 2023, a revaluation of unemployment insurance benefits on April 1”, according to a document to which Le Figaro had access. This increase, in the context of inflation that we know, would come in addition to the annual revaluation of July 1st.
Several tracks are proposed by the executive “to notice“. The first consists of a revaluation of the daily reference wage (SJR), which is the main tool used to calculate the amount of benefits. A second would revalue fixed amounts which are also used in the calculation.
It remains to be seen whether the representatives of the employees will be sensitive to this gesture from the government. The reforming unions, starting with the CFDT, made it known that they were not working “per sequence“. “There is no ‘reset’ button to move on“, thus recently annoyed Laurent Berger.
A reluctance all the more understandable as this proposal comes a month and a half after the implementation of the latest unemployment insurance reform which reduces the maximum duration of compensation by 25%.
New Sequence
For the government, it is a question of turning the page on pension reform as the bill enters its home stretch. This Wednesday, March 15, the fourteen parliamentarians gathered in a joint joint committee thus reached an agreement which must now be submitted to the two chambers. A last sequence that the inter-union intends to use to the maximum. The thirteen members have an appointment in the coming days to decide what to do next.
