VSike Brigitte Macron, I wore, once a boarder with the nuns, the uniform – navy sweater and pleated skirt – that our parents had to buy identical in the same store. At the time, it was not a question of preventing us from attending classes with low necklines, bare stomachs, hooded jogging suits, miniskirts, or even veils. Even if we weren’t so pious, none of us thought about it!

The objective was simply to erase the social differences that could have complexed some of us, and particularly very good students whose parents did not have the means to pay the pension. Today, the Notre-Dame “Les Oiseaux” college, in Verneuil-sur-Seine (Yvelines), has become mixed. It welcomes boys and girls of all religions.
