Alain Finkielkraut was this Tuesday morning the guest of Sonia Mabrouk, on Europe 1. The essayist and philosopher strongly criticized the union of the left and in particular its leader, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. He felt that the leader of rebellious France carries a “monstrous radicalism” in his interventions.

“We don’t pass anything to so-called far-right candidates. We pass everything, from Putin to Islamic clientelism, to Jean-Luc Mélenchon”, declared Alain Finkielkraut this Tuesday morning at the microphone of Europe 1. The essayist and philosopher was the guest of Sonia Mabrouk, he spoke about the union of the left, of which the leader of rebellious France is the head.

“It’s monstrous radicalism”

Alain Finkielkraut felt that Jean-Luc Mélenchon was not the right choice to lead the union of the left. The philosopher then referred to remarks by the candidate for the presidential election, made on France Inter last June: “We are going to foment an attack on the eve of the elections, there was Merah, it will start again…”, said quoted Alain Finkielkraut before commenting: “His remarks on Mohamed Merah should have disqualified him in the eyes of the so-called vigilant press”, he indicated before adding: “Vigilance is the name with which today willful blindness.”

“The radical left poses a problem, especially when this radicalism becomes monstrous. It is a monstrous radicalism that we are witnessing”, lamented Alain Finkielkraut, who did not hide his disappointment at seeing the PS participate in it: “And my great sadness is to see the Socialist Party selling its soul to the monsters for 70 constituencies, 30 of which are winnable.”
