CDU politicians: compulsory vaccination only for a limited time

The Bundestag has already discussed several proposals for compulsory vaccination in Germany. Now the Union seems to have sorted itself out. According to the CDU health politician, Sorge, she wants to differentiate between virus variants and demands: “If vaccination is compulsory, then only with a clear, narrow time limit”.
According to a report, the Union parliamentary group in the Bundestag is in favor of a temporary corona vaccination obligation differentiated according to virus variants. “All group applications lack differentiation according to virus variants and temporal components – as do ideas for improving the database. The Union will submit a proposal on these three points,” announced the health policy spokesman for the Union faction, Tino Sorge, according to the “Welt am Sonntag”. on.
“Compulsory vaccination would only make sense if there was a risk of particularly dangerous virus variants – and if there were suitable vaccines at the same time. If one of the two is not the case, compulsory vaccination would not be very effective,” said Sorge. “The clear signal to the population must also be: If vaccination is compulsory, then only with a clear, narrow time limit.”
According to Sorge’s plans, there should not be a general obligation to vaccinate, but a flexible obligation that always takes effect if a particularly dangerous virus variant is detected. In this case, the procedure should be the same as for regular flu protection – only with an obligation to be vaccinated, which applies for a few weeks or months.
Call for vaccination register
According to this concept, the vaccinations would also be recorded centrally, and the mandatory counseling sessions proposed by the FDP and Greens were rejected. “A vaccination register would provide more clarity on the actual vaccination rates. Above all, it would help to find out more about who the unvaccinated are,” stressed Sorge.
The traffic light coalition wants to have the general corona vaccination requirement, also advocated by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), decided in the form of competing group applications in the Bundestag. There should not be a government draft. So far, MPs have been considering three models: compulsory vaccination for everyone over the age of 18, a requirement only for people over the age of 50 and the rejection of compulsory vaccination.
The SPD, the Greens and the FDP had agreed that the deputies should deliberate and decide freely without the usual group guidelines. SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich believes it is possible that there could be a majority for compulsory vaccination from the age of 18 in the first ballot, as he told the editorial network Germany.
