Uniper: Collaborates with Jera on clean ammonia

(CercleFinance.com) – JERA and Uniper are collaborating to facilitate the development of initial production of 2 MTPA of clean ammonia, with potential for expansion up to 8 MTPA, in order to accelerate the production and supply of fuels without carbon from the United States for use in the United States, Europe, Japan and greater Asia.

The proposed facility on the U.S. Gulf Coast aims to produce hydrogen and convert it into clean ammonia that will be supplied to JERA and Uniper under long-term sales and purchase agreements, l With Europe being the first initial export market, Uniper is aiming for around 1 MTPA of green ammonia from all sources by the end of the decade.

The two companies are working together to optimize their LNG portfolio. Uniper will thus be able to supply additional LNG to Germany and JERA to Japan and beyond.

“This project offers a unique opportunity to support Germany’s decarbonization efforts while advancing the development of ammonia technology for hydrogen distribution and industrial decarbonization,” said Steven Winn, Managing Director of JERA. Americas.
