Unistellar launches the first augmented reality astronomical binoculars


The French start-up Unistellar, which has developed a global network of amateur astronomers thanks to its easy-to-use eVscope telescopes, today offers an innovative new product: intelligent binoculars. Including augmented reality, the Envision will reveal everything there is to know about what you are observing, whether it is the starry sky or the landscape in front of you.

Augmented reality for intelligent observation

Augmented reality will contextualize information in the user’s field of vision in order to increase their ability to locate comets, star clusters or other nebulae in the night sky. What’s more, the binoculars include a guided navigation mode which allows you to use your smartphone to select observable objects in the sky and find them easily.

The Envision smart binoculars also feature a unique target-lock mode, called Shareable Target-Lock Mode. If you spot something fascinating in the sky and want to share it with the people with you, it is possible to lock on the target and pass the binoculars. The new user is then guided to find the celestial object that caught your eye.

Also to be taken while hiking

In addition to the night sky, Envision binoculars also allow you to observe nature and analyze the surrounding topography. With an internet connection and a GPS, your smartphone automatically has access to a database that allows you to learn more about the places. If Internet access is difficult, it is possible to download a map in advance.

The Envision binoculars are available for pre-order for a value of €599, but the quantity is limited to 1000 units. Subsequently, the binoculars will cost €999. Crowdfunding on Kickstarter will arrive soon, perhaps to reiterate the success already encountered by Unistellar with its eVscope.
