It’s their oak wedding! Currently the UK’s oldest married couple, Ron and Joyce Bond, aged 102 and 100, celebrated their 81st wedding anniversary this month, on January 4, reports the DailyMail. The two senior spouses currently share an apartment in a residence for the elderly in Milton Keynes, between London and Birmingham.
The centenarian couple told the British media their secrets for a lasting and happy marriage: making “compromises” and “taking care of each other”. “There is no dominant in our couple. Everyone gives and receives,” says Joyce. “Sometimes life is difficult but we face the difficulties together”, says Ron. If their friends at the time had any doubts about their union, Joyce and Ron proved them wrong by staying together for eight decades.
Queen Elizabeth II wrote to them
The two lovebirds can’t believe they have achieved such longevity. They celebrated the occasion with tea and cookies. A wink was sent to them on BBC Radio 2. Joyce was 19 and Ron 21 when they said yes after a real “love at first sight”. For their 80 years of marriage, Queen Elizabeth II had even sent them a letter to congratulate them.
Their two children confirm it: their parents are role models and the love they have for each other is very inspiring for them, “but also for their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren and great -great-grandchildren”.
