(Reuters) – Britain’s Labor Party is credited with a 33-point lead over the ruling Conservatives in a YouGov poll released on Thursday, the highest since at least the late 1990s, as the draft budget of the government of Liz Truss plunged the United Kingdom into financial turmoil.

Labor is credited with 54% of voting intentions in this survey carried out Wednesday and Thursday among 1,712 adults, while the Conservative Party capped at 21%.

Labor had never enjoyed such a lead in a YouGov poll or recorded such a high level of voting intentions in any survey published since the late 1990s, the pollster said.

Liz Truss took over the helm of the UK government on September 6 after winning an internal Conservative Party election held in the summer following the resignation of Boris Johnson. The next general elections in Great Britain are expected in 2024.
