The state of health of King Charles III is on everyone’s lips this Tuesday morning in the United Kingdom. The day before, the British learned that their sovereign, aged 75, was suffering from cancer discovered during his recent prostate operation. Nine months after his coronation, the news created a shock wave across the Channel.
This is news that has shocked the whole of the United Kingdom. This Monday at 6 p.m., the information broke: King Charles III is suffering from a form of cancer. Buckingham Palace quickly issued a press release to reveal the state of health of the sovereign, crowned only nine months ago and recently operated on the prostate. Completely unprecedented transparency, explains Stéphane Bern, specialist in royalty. “He decided to tell the British the truth and publish health bulletins to break with the tradition of keeping it all a secret.”
Public visits paused
“I think we have entered a new era and that we will have regular information,” continues Stéphane Bern. “What he also wants to show is that he is starting treatment and that he has a good chance of recovering as quickly as possible, in any case his state of mind is positive.”
Despite his treatment, King Charles III continues to reign over the United Kingdom. According to the press release, he is handling state affairs and administrative duties and will resume public visits as soon as possible.
