(Reuters) – A Democratic-majority U.S. House of Representatives committee on Friday released former Republican President Donald Trump’s 2015-2020 tax returns after a lengthy arbitration battle by the Supreme Court.
The Ways and Means Committee has particular jurisdiction over tax matters in the United States. Its president, Richard Neal, has been calling for the publication of Donald Trump’s tax returns since 2019, citing the need for Congress to examine the validity of federal laws on the tax situation of presidents and to develop ethical rules in the matter. .
Unlike his predecessors, Donald Trump, president from January 2017 to January 2021, has always refused to reveal his tax returns and has filed numerous legal remedies to thwart Richard Neal’s request.
The Supreme Court rejected a final appeal by the 76-year-old businessman last November, paving the way for the transfer of the documents.
