Two people were killed after tornadoes caused significant property damage in North Texas, according to a still provisional report. Emergency services are still looking for victims. 375,000 homes were without electricity in several American states on Sunday morning.

At least two people died in North Texas, hit overnight from Saturday to Sunday by tornadoes which caused significant material damage, according to local media. Emergency services are still conducting their searches on Sunday morning in these great plains of the southern United States, with Oklahoma and Arkansas also being affected by this bad weather and major power outages.

North of Dallas, a tornado struck a residential neighborhood, killing at least two people, according to Sheriff Ray Sappington, speaking on local television WFAA. “I can tell you two certain (deaths), but I can also tell you that this number will increase,” he said. “We are still looking for the victims, I think we can still find survivors,” he added.

“Many” injured

The sheriff was speaking on a highway area ravaged by the storm, as dozens of people took refuge in the gas station for protection. “A lot” of people were injured there, said Ray Sappington.

Some 375,000 homes were without power Sunday morning in Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas, according to the poweroutage.us website. Tornado warnings are still in effect in the region for Sunday, but according to the US Weather Service, the worst is over.
