United States: Deterioration in consumer confidence in October


PARIS (Reuters) – Consumer confidence in the United States deteriorated in October, shows the Conference Board’s monthly survey published on Tuesday.

The confidence index calculated by the employers’ organization stood at 102.6 compared to 104.3 in September (revised from 103.0). The consensus of economists polled by Reuters predicted a figure of 100.0.

The consumer judgment component of the current situation stood at 143.1 compared to last month’s 146.2 (revised) and the expectations component, based on the short-term outlook for income, business and market conditions of work, came out at 75.6 against 76.4.

Consumer expectations for inflation over the next year give a rate of 5.9%.
