Two years after the invasion of the Capitol, the appointment of the new speaker of the House of Representatives illustrates well the deep division of the country.

Iwo years ago, on January 6, 2021, supporters of Donald Trump, who wanted to interrupt the certification of the presidential election that they had lost, invaded the Capitol. If it needed a symbol of the aftermath of that day on the country, one could not find better than the soap opera of the election of the president of the new Congress, resulting from the midterm elections in November.
Television stations were forced to split their screens to cover the various events of the day. On the steps of the Capitol, a ceremony took place in the morning in honor of the police officers who died on January 6, 2021 or just after. Their names were spelled out, to the sound of the death knell, by members of their family.
