United States: Stronger than expected drop in the “Empire State” activity index in May

(Reuters) – Manufacturing activity in the New York region recorded a sharper decline than expected in May, the monthly survey from the regional branch of the Federal Reserve showed on Wednesday.

Its “Empire State” index goes to ???-15.6 after ??-14.3?? in April.

Economists polled by Reuters forecast an average of -10.0? in May.

The new orders component stood at ???-16.5 in May after -16.2? last month and that of employment at ???-6.4 after ??-5.1 in April?.?
