United States: the revocation of the right to abortion arouses fear among homosexuals

Alexis Guilleux (in New York), edited by Romain Rouillard

Last week, the American Supreme Court decided to revoke the right to abortion, thus offering the possibility to the States which wish it to prohibit it purely and simply. A decision that arouses concern among homosexuals who fear that their rights will be challenged.

Pride, but also a lot of anger and concern in the ranks of the demonstrators in New York. After the revocation of the right to abortion by the American Supreme Court, the homosexual community fears for its acquired rights. Nick and Reggie have been married for five years and Reggie admits Pride is a little different this year. “We’re slowly losing all that progress we fought for, it’s always important to come here, but even more so this year because we’re under siege, we’re under attack.”

Critics focus on Judge Clarence Thomas. Symbol of the ultra conservatism of the American Supreme Court, he would see himself returning to the right to contraception and marriage for all. Beneath her eyelashes painted in the colors of the rainbow, Abigail’s gaze is black. It is addressed directly to the magistrates. “Have you looked at the legality of what you’re saying? Are you only considering your religion? I would just like to ask him where his logic comes from and try to find out if he has a valid point. I bet that he has none”

A permanent fight

For the moment, no other judge shares the position of Clarence Thomas. But as Jeremy explains, for queer people (sexual minorities), the fight is permanent: “On my sign, it says ‘Pride started as a demonstration, Pride and will always be a demonstration. existence of queer people is a manifestation. It’s sad, but it’s true.”

Everyone recognizes that defending their rights involves other demonstrations and voting, starting with the mid-term elections next November.
