United States: three sailors found dead aboard the USS George Washington in less than a week

Three sailors from the USS George Washington have been found dead aboard the aircraft carrier, according to the US Navy. An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the deaths.

Two sailors were first found dead on April 9 and 10, and the third on Friday April 15. “While these incidents are still under investigation, there are no initial indications that there is a correlation between these tragic events,” said US Navy spokesman Commander Reann Mommsen.

The first victim identified by the Navy is Mikail Sharp, Retail Services Specialist 3rd Class, the second is Natasha Huffman, Interior Communications Electrician 3rd Class. The identity of the third sailor found dead has not yet been released. The causes of death have not yet been made public.

According to CNN, the aircraft carrier welcomed a special psychiatric response team on board to provide psychological support to the service members who experienced the deaths of these three sailors aboard the USS George Washington, which is currently in Newport News, Va., for refueling and overhaul.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends and shipmates of our sailors,” Ms Mommsen said.
