WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, assault by supporters of Donald Trump on the Capitol sent a subpoena to the former president on Friday. American.

Under federal law, refusing to respond to a congressional subpoena is punishable by one to 12 months in prison, but requires a prior vote of the House of Representatives to forward the case to the Justice Department. .

The commission of inquiry requires Donald Trump to hand over the requested documents by November 4, and to appear before November 14.
