The average school education of the Swiss population is getting better and better.
More than half of the 25 to 34-year-olds now have a higher vocational qualification or a university degree.
In particular, the women of the younger generation have made up for the educational deficit in terms of university degrees, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (BFS).
Last year in Switzerland, 16.6 percent of women and 37.1 percent of men aged 65 and over had a higher vocational education or university degree. In the younger generation, on the other hand, the gender ratio has reversed: among 25 to 34-year-olds, it was already 54.4 percent of women and 50.2 percent of men with such a degree.
More women than men in universities
According to the statistical office, the fact that women have made up for the educational deficit is particularly evident when it comes to university degrees: in 2021, 9.9 percent of women and 19.5 percent of men aged 65 and over had a university degree. In the younger generation of 25 to 34-year-olds, these proportions were significantly higher at 41.5 percent for women and 34.9 percent for men. Here, too, the gender ratio has changed.
