University of Nantes: the recall of the gendarme of the electoral campaign

QA few days after having pinpointed certain figures presented by Marine Le Pen in a profession of faith, the National Commission for the Control of the Electoral Campaign (CNCCEP) is back in service. Without explicitly specifying why, it publishes this Saturday a call to order probably caused by the affair of the University of Nantes, whose president called, in a widely distributed email, to vote for Emmanuel Macron on April 24.

The CNCCEP obviously did not appreciate the dissemination of such a political message in the middle of the campaign period by using a list of email addresses collected from the professional and student environment of the University of Nantes. It specifies, in a press release: “It is important not to use a file for purposes incompatible with those for which it was created and to respect the rules relating to the information of persons, their ability to oppose the processing of their data and, in some cases, the need to obtain their consent. And to add, in detail, that a “file of professional addresses containing personal data cannot in principle be used for propaganda or canvassing purposes”.

The RN denounces a gross fault

The president of the University of Nantes sent an email to tens of thousands of students on Wednesday calling for a “barrier to the far right” on April 24, for the second round of the presidential election, a position denounced by the National Rally.

“Deeply attached to democratic and republican values, to the rule of law, to respect for fundamental and individual rights, to a universalism based on respect for differences, to freedom of expression and to European construction, I address you this unusual but essential message in view of the stakes attached to this vote, ”wrote Carine Bernault in this email. The University of Nantes said the email was sent to around 42,000 students as well as some 4,000 staff members on Wednesday afternoon. This dispatch was criticized by the acting president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, who denounces a “serious fault”, “in violation of the rules of neutrality imposed by the function”.
