In recent days, many Xbox players have received a new error message, telling them that their controller is no longer compatible. As of November 12, only third-party accessories with an official license will be able to work on Microsoft consoles.
This weekend, a wave of disgruntled gamers took to their X (Twitter) accounts to attack Microsoft. Nothing new under the sun so far you might say. However, the reason for their anger may concern you. In fact, everyone points to a new error appearing on their console, stamped with the name 0x82d60002. Here is the message it contains:
“A connected accessory is not authorized. The use of unauthorized accessories compromises your gaming experience. For this reason, the use of the unauthorized accessory will be blocked on 11/12/2023. » You will have understood, if you use a controller, a headset or any other accessory that does not come from Microsoft on your Xbox, it may no longer be compatible in just a few days.

If you have an accessory that comes from these manufacturers, you have nothing to worry about: the latter will remain compatible with your Xbox after November 12. If, on the other hand, your accessory comes from another manufacturer, Microsoft will block its use, without offering an alternative solution. The Redmond firm advises users who can to return the product and get a refund.
So why this sudden decision on the part of Microsoft? According to information from Windows Centraln, this new measure comes as Microsoft seeks to renew the procedure to become an official partner manufacturer. For controllers, the firm is seeking in particular to simplify the procedures for wireless models. It seems that it is precisely the latter, especially those who use alternative solutions to connect, who are no longer compatible.
This would be a way for Microsoft to reduce security risks on the one hand, by preventing accessories infected with malware from being able to connect to the console, and to avoid cheating on the other hand, with peripherals that would give dishonest players an advantage. Unfortunately, this also means that for many players, this restriction means another checkout. This is very bad news, since the accessories concerned are often cheap alternatives to official peripherals, allowing players to enjoy their games at a lower cost.
