The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) shared a touching post on his Facebook channel on July 29, 2023. The post is about the exciting incident that took place in Paklenica National Park near Zadar. A tourist gave birth to a girl in the middle of the park on Saturday afternoon. She was supported by seven people from the mountain rescue service. Luckily there was even a gynecologist among the helpers, they say. Immediately after the birth, the mother was taken to a hospital with her baby.

A helper is said to the Croatian news portal “index” have told at length how everything was going. She even said that the woman gave birth to the baby, in principle, alone. “When we arrived, the birth was in the final stages. She gave birth alone in the toilet in Lugarnica. We arrived with all the medical equipment and started the care.” The mother was reportedly in shock after the delivery.
The head of Paklenica National Park, Natalija Andačić, is also quoted in the article as saying that the woman reportedly said she didn’t know she was pregnant until she went into labor. “Everything went well on site, both mother and child were fine,” said Andačić.
Psychological care after a surprise birth
An experience that everyone involved will certainly not forget in a hurry, probably least of all the mother herself. Such incidents happen again and again. Women go into unexpected labor and suddenly have a baby. How is this possible? Pregnancy is often simply suppressed because a baby does not fit into the phase of life or the women are already going through the menopause and believe that they can no longer become pregnant. And hey presto it happens.
In almost all cases it is understandably a great shock, which is why one receives psychological care immediately after such an experience. What many do not know: In most hospitals there are even special shock rooms for precisely such cases, to which new mothers can be taken immediately after the birth in order to be able to process everything calmly and in a suitable environment.
