While carrying out work to replace a gas pipe, Italian workers certainly did not expect to get their hands on a mosaic dating from Roman times!
However, this is what happened in Verona (Italy) where the work belonging to a large villa from antiquity (4th or 5th century AD) was discovered a few days ago.
Towards a future exhibition?
“We are happy that the Agsm Aim group, with its work in the region, is discovering treasures of which Verona is rich. This is an extraordinary example. Together with the mayor, we will study the most appropriate choices to make to make these important discoveries usable and visible for our citizens and tourists, ”said the group’s president, Stefano Casali, in the columns of the Verona Sera.
So now it remains to highlight this discovery which also delights the mayor of the city: “The discovery of the site is a great gift for Montorio”, the district of Verona where the mosaic was found, “because it is Verona, full of extraordinary discoveries and beauty. Not only the historic center, a Unesco heritage site, but the whole city has wonderful things and Montorio is an example of this,” commented the mayor, Federico Sboarina.
The municipality now intends to pool all these finds: indeed, other residential complexes, spas and mosaics emerge regularly and in a dispersed manner in the city, reports GEO.
