This therapeutic cushion presented at CES 2023 lowers the stress level of the person who hugs it.

Unveiled at CES 2023, the Fufuly is a device intended to reduce anxiety. Taking the form of a cushion, the device allows its user to reduce the rate of his breathing and encourages him unconsciously to take deeper breaths.

A therapeutic cushion based on scientific work

Modeled on the therapies generally offered in sophrology, the Japanese company Yukai Engineering unveils a therapeutic cushion to calm patients in the grip of anxiety attacks. By emitting gentle pulsations against the belly of the person who hugs it, the device aims to reproduce a soothing human behavior, similar to a hug. The combination of these two factors would explain the functioning of the product.

To develop its cushion, the Japanese company has partnered with the University of Tokyo, the latter having carried out work on the synchronization of heartbeat between humans as well as between humans and objects. The principle is simple, the human generally feels soothed when he holds his pet or a loved one in his arms. According to its inventor, using Fufuly for even five minutes would reduce an individual’s stress level.

Therapeutic robots: a concept that is a hit in Japan

Inventor of Fufuly and CEO of the Japanese company, Shunsuke Aoki is not at his first attempt when it comes to atypical objects. The entrepreneur had already surprised the public with a previous cushion bearing the image of a cat and featuring a robotic tail. Baptized the Qoobo, the latter was already presented as a therapeutic robot, a highly developed market in the land of the Rising Sun.

Along the same lines, Aoki’s company presented Lightony, a humanoid-looking bedside lamp. Designed to make it easier to fall asleep, the latter is robotized and recognizes certain voice commands such as ” good morning », having the effect of lighting the lamp.

If the price of Fufuly is not yet known, it should nevertheless be marketed in Japan in 2023 through a crowdfunding campaign.
