6 easy upcycling ideas for Christmas decorations

Make upcycled Christmas ornaments

So individual and pretty to look at! All you need is cleaned lids from screw-top jars, some corrugated cardboard, cardboard, scissors, white permanent marker, hot glue and a piece of cord. Cut out the corrugated cardboard in a circle the size of the lid and glue it in place. Then you cut out mountains and houses, paint them and glue them on one after the other. Finally, attach a loop to the back of the pendant with a piece of cord and some hot glue and your Christmas bouquet can be covered with self-made pendants.

upcycled angel

The little angels bring joy as Secret Santa gifts and gift tags. The body is made from a recycled toilet paper roll with stars pasted on it or dotted with silver pen. With a larger needle you can pull thread through the toilet paper roll and thread balls for your head and feet. A few cut pieces of cardboard or paper or feathers become wings and now your angel only needs some cotton wool as angel curls and the upcycling project is done.

buffalo stars

Once you’ve started, you can’t stop making the little stars: you can fold them out of any oblong scraps of paper. Watch the video tutorial to see how it’s done! You can use the small stars as table decorations or thread them into a garland or hang them up individually. To do this, use a small needle and thin yarn to pierce a star point and thread the stars one after the other or tie the yarn together in a loop.

upcycled reindeer

Some artistic skill is required for these instructions, as you have to draw the cute reindeer once. But here, too, the materials consist of old cardboard scraps and a toilet paper roll. You will also need a white crayon, scissors and, if necessary, glue and glitter. If you don’t have any glitter at home, simply color in the antlers (and possibly the nose).

Star pendant made from toilet rolls

For these stars you have to collect six toilet paper rolls per star and then show some patience in cutting and folding – but the result is impressive! See for yourself in the video.

Make quick Christmas stars

If you don’t have that much time for the filigree twisted stars above, you can use this variant to make beautiful Christmas decorations for the Christmas tree in no time at all. Here the toilet rolls are simply cut into strips, pressed a little flat, the corners cut at an angle and then pushed into one another and glued. Merry Christmas!
