Google has detected a new zero-day flaw, the 8th of the year. To protect yourself against this, simply upgrade to version 107.0.5304.121/122 if you are on a Windows PC, and to version 107.0.5304.121 on Mac or Linux.

Google reported a zero-day vulnerability affecting Chrome, detected 3 days ago. Fortunately, a fix is already available. The company therefore invites its users to update their browser as soon as possible.

A flaw discovered 3 days ago

The company attributes the discovery of this flaw, called CVE-2022-4135, to Clément Lecigne, a member of its threat analysis team. His discovery dates back to November 22.

As a reminder, a zero-day flaw is a vulnerability for which no patch has previously been published. In order to mitigate the risk of it being exploited by hackers, and as usual, Google does not communicate the details of this CVE-2022-4135 flaw until the majority of users have applied the patch.

Access to details and bug reports may be restricted until a majority of users have received a fix. We will also maintain restrictions if the bug exists in a third-party library that other projects similarly depend on, but has not yet been fixed. “says the company. At this stage, Google therefore limits itself to evoking a GPU buffer overflow type bug.

A simple remedy: update Chrome

On Windows PC, the CVE-2022-4135 flaw is fixed by Chrome version 107.0.5304.121/.122. On Mac and Linux, it is by version 107.0.5304.121.

The procedure to update Chrome is not complicated. All you have to do is open your browser, then click on the “More” button (the three vertical dots) at the top right. In “Help”, then select “About Google Chrome”, and, if necessary, “Update Google Chrome”. If this proposal does not appear, the browser is already using the latest version. Google details the procedure on this site.

Finally, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, this is the 8e zero-day flaw to hit Chrome this year. If you are interested, here is the exhaustive log of the previous ones:
