Shooting broke out in the suburbs of the capital. Columns of Russian armor entered through Belarus are heading towards the city.
Day 2. The Russian troops who entered Ukrainian territory the day before continue to advance towards Kiev. On Friday morning, fighting broke out even in the suburbs of the capital. Clashes were reported in Hostomel, Vorzel and Boutcha, residential areas located about ten kilometers northwest of the city center. The most intense battle seems to be taking place in Obolon, one of the largest districts of the capital, located to the north, along the Dnieper.
In videos circulating on social networks, the sound of automatic weapons echoes between buildings. Ukraine’s Defense Minister warned residents: “The Russians are in Obolon. We ask citizens to inform us of enemy movements, make Molotov cocktails, neutralize the occupants.” One witness notably described to Release how a group of six to eight Russian soldiers arrived “in the area of Zoe-Gaidai Street” aboard trucks stolen from the Ukrainian army. According to his account, the Ukrainian National Guard, familiar with the scene, lured the Russian fighters into a trap to surround them, before opening fire.
If the presence of Russian soldiers is attested, the way in which they entered the capital remains unknown. None of the armored columns from the north and the border with Belarus seem to have reached Kiev yet. The government evokes an operation of “sabotage” led by…
