The latest version of Skype fixes a number of crashes affecting devices Windows 11 and iOS. In addition, it improves the message reaction system.

Microsoft has released a new version of Skype. This 8.85.76.400 version is currently only available to Insider members, but it will be available to everyone soon. It fixes some annoying bugs and adds welcome features.

Bugs fixed

If you upgraded your system from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you might have suffered from some bugs, especially on Skype. One of them is problematic to say the least: it is the pure and simple shutdown of the software. This crash also affects the iOS version. According to the release notes, these crashes are now a thing of the past.

Two other fixes specifically affect the Android version of Skype. One is GIFs not animating, the other is missing the send button after recording a video.

To be exhaustive, let’s also mention the end of the language localization errors during a new installation or the correction of the bug interrupting a video call when downloading a file from the chat. Another issue, related to infinite loading when connecting to secure meetings via a guest account from a previous session, has also been fixed.

Added features

Now let’s come to things a little happier: the addition of new features. Skype 8.85.76.400 allows liking a text message by simply double-tapping it; a fairly intuitive and fast process. Naturally, this means only works with devices that have a touch screen.

In a fairly similar register, but for all platforms this time, it is now enough to click on a person’s reaction to a message to add a reaction yourself. It is also possible to duplicate a reaction or delete it with a single click. Finally, to find out who reacted, simply hover over the reaction if you’re on PC, or tap and hold on mobile.

For basic or moderate needs, Skype is a very good video software thanks to its easy handling, its features, its clean interface and call stability. The most experienced users will probably prefer a more complete solution.
