The website which allowed Uptobox to illegally host audio and video content seems to be reaching the end of its adventure.

In the world of illegal downloading, there are a few big names that almost everyone knows. Uptobox is part of this list, which had notably been specifically targeted by the Hollywood giants and by Netflix as an enemy to be defeated. Already the subject of a DNS blockage since last May, this week it was directly attacked physically by the police. It has now been inaccessible for more than 24 hours.

It’s a bit of a French Megaupload that we’re currently experiencing. The Uptobox site, which has become the key player in illegal downloading in France, has apparently joined Kim Doctom’s platform in the list of giants in the sector finally caught up by the courts.

And for this, the police would have simply relied on information provided directly by a person presenting himself as the Director of New Technologies of Uptobox on X.com (formerly Twitter). The latter had in fact posted once of himself in the presence of a car located near the Scaleway/Opcore parking lot.

Police raid in Île-de-France

The latter are two companies belonging to Xavier Niel’s Iliad group which offer hosting solutions. A simple clue which made the police think that the Uptobox servers could well be installed in these premises in Vitry-sur-Seine. They have since carried out a successful raid on Tuesday September 19.

Indeed, Uptobox explained yesterday on X.com that it had “ lost access to the servers containing the user files, they are no longer reachable, we have not yet had any documented confirmation of the seizure of our servers by anyone. » According to the media The Informedthe police hope, through the seizures, to be able to find the names of the managers as well as those of the people who have taken out a paid subscription.
