Urban rodeos: arrests are increasing in Paris and inner suburbs, at the request of Gérald Darmanin

Action reaction. Arrests linked to the phenomenon of urban rodeos have multiplied in recent days in Paris and in the inner suburbs since Gérald Darmanin asked the police to raise their voices.

“Sustained vigilance”, assures the Paris police headquarters (PP) this Sunday, May 15, when it announces that it has arrested 3 people and seized 3 motorcycles, in Ivry-sur-Seine then in Champigny-sur-Marne, in the Val-de-Marne (94).

A few hours earlier, the PP had already announced that it had arrested three people in Paris, two in the 14th arrondissement accused of having done “quad rodeo on public roadsand another in the 17th arrondissement accused of havingperformed wheelies with a moto-cross”.

The day before, 4 motorcycles had been seized and 3 people had been arrested in Créteil, in Val-de-Marne (94), after the latter had just loaded motocross into a truck. Two of them “were reported as stolen”, had also underlined the PP.

Same thing in Seine-Saint-Denis (93), where 3 vehicles were seized and 2 people arrested in Dugny, La Courneuve and Clichy-sous-Bois, while the PP indicated that it was continuing “the fight against urban rodeos in the Paris conurbation”. Same thing in Chevilly-Larue and Champigny-sur-Marne, in Val-de-Marne (94).

On Friday, a coordinated operation had even been carried out in several municipalities in the Paris conurbation, during which 6 two-wheelers had been seized, with 68 people checked, including 9 arrested and 8 fined.

“Systematic seizure of vehicles”

An intensification of checks and arrests, concomitant with the request of Gérald Darmanin, this Thursday, May 12, to “mobilize all the services […] with the systematic seizure of vehicles and the arrest of perpetrators”.

The Minister of the Interior thus asked the police “to implement determined actions from this Friday to deal with this phenomenon” with a target of 700 control operations this weekend. They are also invited to “proceed with the systematic seizure of the gear used” during the rodeos.
