US box office: Sonic 2 starts with a bang, Morbius collapses


While Sonic 2 starts with a bang, a more complicated second week for Morbius at the US box office, which loses 74% of its spectators. Discover the ranking of weekend outings across the Atlantic.

Great start for sonic 2 the movie which starts better than its previous part released in 2020: the animated film adapted from the video game totals $ 71 million at the end of its first weekend, according to the first estimates of Box-office Mojo.

Morbius collapsed in the 2nd week, losing 73.9% of its viewers. The Marvel movie starring Jared Leto brings in an additional $10.2 million, for a cumulative $57.07 million. The Secret of the Lost City also continues to lose viewers, but to a lesser extent than Morbius (-37.7%).

Disappointing start for theAmbulance by Michael Bay, which recorded $8.7 million for its launch in the United States and is only 4th. It is “far from the forecasts which counted on some $12 million“as our colleagues from Boxoffice Pro.

The Michael Bay film distributed by Universal remains below the $16.1 million of 13 Hours (2016) and the $20.2 million of No Pain No Gain (2013). However, optimism remains within the studio in the face of positive word-of-mouth, like the score of 88% on the Rotten Tomatoes site. Internationally, $22.4 million in revenue has already been generated via 68 markets“, they add.

In France, Ambulance has attracted just over 200,000 spectators since its release on March 23 (214,951 admissions according to CBO Box-office).

On the continuation side, The Batman, Uncharted, Spider-Man: No Way Home and All on stage 2 remain in good place, still monopolizing the Top 10 of the box office several weeks / months after their release.

Another continuation for a film that gains places every week: Everything Everywhere All at Once, which goes from 10th place to 6th. Released on American screens on March 25, the film totaled 8.4 M$ of exploitation and even arrives at the top of the Top 250 of the best films of all time on the American rating site Letterboxd.

We also note the release of Selena with Jennifer Lopez on the 25th anniversary of the film, a biopic dedicated to the tragic fate of Latin singer Selena, which has since been the subject of a Netflix series.
