Surprise at the top of the US box office! The Bad GuysDreamworks animated film directed by Frenchman Pierre Perifel, takes first place in the ranking!

With 24 million dollars collected, he dislodges Fantastic Beasts 3 from its pedestal. The new film in the saga had a lackluster start last week, earning only $43 million between April 15 and 17, on more than 4,200 screens. For its second weekend, its attendance dropped by 67%!

For comparison, the first opus had taken in more than $74 million in 2016 for its inaugural weekend (for a final total of $234 million), while the second chapter had collected $62 million (to end its American career around $159 million).

It is therefore a very mixed result for Warner studios, which will have to rely on the international career of David Yates’ film to cover their production and marketing costs.

Dumbledore’s Secrets, which won 14 million more this week, is also beaten by Sonic 2 and its 15 million. Another new feature making a good start with 12 million: The Northman. The film by Robert Eggers (The Witch), which tells a story of revenge in the time of the Vikings, will be released on May 11 in France.

The Secret of the Lost City, an adventure film starring Sandra Bullock, is holding up well for its 5th week of release, accumulating 85 million green tickets. He is however overtaken by Nicolas Cage and his Solid Gold Talent (7.7 million collected for its first weekend).

At the bottom of the table, we find Father Studrama carried by Mark Wahlberg, Morbius and Ambulance. Michael Bay’s feature film is a bitter failure for the filmmaker, who struggles to raise 20 million in 3 weeks.
