US election campaign: That's why the Rolling Stones threaten Donald Trump with a lawsuit

Despite her clear announcement in 2016, Donald Trump continues to use a Rolling Stones song in the campaign. They are therefore threatening to file a lawsuit.

The Rolling Stones appear to be taking legal action to ban Donald Trump (74) from playing their music at his campaign events. Above all, the song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" seems to have appealed to the incumbent US President, most recently at his controversial campaign event in Tulsa last weekend. After the band already announced via Twitter in 2016 that they did not support him, he continued to play the song at his meetings. The Rolling Stones now want to prevent this.

Cooperation with the authorities

The band linked on Twitter to an article on the US site "Deadline", which also quotes from her statement. It says that the Rolling Stones "are taking further steps to prevent him from using their songs at his political events. The Stones' legal team works with the BMI." Trump is therefore already informed of the facts. Broadcast Music Incorporated, or BMI for short, is a copyright company in the United States. It can also prohibit the President from using the songs.

Mick Jagger (76) and Co. are not the only internationally renowned artists who have banned Trump from playing their music. After Tom Petty's (1950-2017) "I Won't Back Down" ran in Tulsa, his heirs spoke up and brought an injunction like her on Twitter: "Tom would never want his songs to be used for a campaign of hate."

Opponents vs. supporter

The long list of those who have banned Trump from using their music, either by relatives or lawyers, includes musical greats such as Neil Young, Rihanna, Elton John, Eminem, REM, Adele, Guns N'Roses, Pharell Williams, Queen, Luciano Pavarotti, Prince, Aerosmith or Panic! At the disco.

Dee Snider (65), singer of the band Twisted Sister, originally allowed Trump to use the classic "We're Not Gonna Take It", but changed his mind after Trump's extremist views became clearer.

Things are different with Kid Rock, Kanye West, Kiss bass player Gene Simmons, Aaron Carter or country singer Loretta Lynn – they all support the American president.
