After US rapper Cardi B pleaded guilty in court, she was sentenced to 15 days of community service.

US rapper Cardi B (29) has pleaded guilty to charges of assault and negligent endangerment in connection with a brawl at a New York strip club in 2018. In doing so, she avoids a trial that would have threatened her with imprisonment if she was convicted. Ten other charges were dropped.

She was committed to 15 days of community service and must stay away from the women involved for three years and pay their court costs. “No one is above the law,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said after the sentencing, according to media reports.

Cardi B: “I made some bad decisions”

“Part of growing up and maturing is being responsible for your actions”, Cardi B wrote in a statement, according to The Guardian.

“As a mother, I try to teach my kids that, but the good example starts with me. I’ve made some bad decisions in my past that I face up to and admit. Those moments don’t define me, and they don’t reflect who I am now. I look forward to moving out of this situation with my family and friends and getting back to doing what I love most – music and my fans.”

Cardi B and her husband, US rapper Offset (30), have been parents to a daughter since July 2018. Her son was born in September 2021.

Alleged affair as a trigger

According to prosecutors, Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, as the musician’s native name, had thrown objects, including bottles of champagne, at two sisters who worked as bartenders at Angels Strip Club in Flushing, Queens. In addition, Cardi B asked her companion to attack the two as well. The 29-year-old previously claimed that one of the women was having an affair with her husband.

The rapper was supported by co-defendants Jeffrey Bush and Tawana Jackson-Morel. Bush will serve six months in prison for his involvement in the attack.

If Cardi B doesn’t complete community service by January 2023, she too faces jail time.
