US-Supreme Court denies Trump request for investigation into Jan. 6 assault

WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected a request by former President Donald Trump to block the release of documents sought by a House committee to investigate the assault on the Washington Capitol in Washington. January 6, 2021.

The documents, kept by a federal agency, may therefore be disclosed.

Donald Trump had filed a request last October, in which he claimed that these documents were protected by what is qualified in the United States as executive privilege, which preserves the confidentiality of certain documents of the White House.

Supporters of Donald Trump invaded the headquarters of Congress in Washington on January 6 to try to prevent the certification by American parliamentarians of his defeat in the presidential election of November 2020.
