US-Trump condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb 27 (Reuters) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, adding he was praying for Ukrainians.

Donald Trump was speaking at CPAC, a political meeting organized by American conservatives, in Florida, a few hours after the announcement by Western powers of new financial sanctions against Moscow.

Earlier in the week, the former American president had drawn the wrath of certain members of the Republican party after having qualified the actions of Vladimir Putin in Ukraine as “brilliant” and “rather wise”.

In front of a crowd that was completely won over to him, Donald Trump expressed his empathy for the Ukrainians and praised Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, praising his “courage” while the leader is in Kiev.

“The Russian attack on Ukraine is terrible. We pray for the proud Ukrainian people. God bless them all,” said Donald Trump. (Report Alexandra Ulmer; with Steve Holland, written by David Morgan; French version Camille Raynaud)
