ON BOARD AIR FORCE ONE (Reuters) – The United States wants to strengthen its economic partnership with Taiwan, particularly in terms of cutting-edge technology, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday.
US President Joe Biden arrived in Japan on Sunday to attend a summit of the “Quad” group bringing together the United States, Japan, India and Australia. Regional security issues, including relations with China, which regards Taiwan as a rebel province, will be a priority at this meeting.
“We don’t want to see unilateral changes to the status quo and we certainly don’t want to see military aggression. And we want that message to come not just from us, but from an array of allies and partners, the both in this region and beyond,” Jake Sullivan told reporters on the plane taking Joe Biden to Japan.
“We want to strengthen our economic partnership with Taiwan especially on advanced technology issues, including semiconductors and supply chains.”
