USA: Chicago PMI rises in December

(CercleFinance.com) – Activity in the Chicago area contracted less sharply than expected in December, the results of a monthly survey of purchasing managers showed on Friday.

After three consecutive months of decline, the Chicago PMI index rose 7.7 points this month to settle at 44.9, while economists and analysts expected a much less marked rebound, around 40 dots.

However, this indicator remains well below the 50 point mark, which reflects a continued contraction in activity.
