(CercleFinance.com) – US consumer confidence deteriorated in January, according to the Conference Board index which stood at 113.8 for the current month, compared to 115.2 for December 2021 (revised from 115.8 in initial estimate).
In detail, while the present situation component improved month on month, rising from 144.8 to 148.2, this improvement was more than offset by a decline in the expectations component, which from 95.4 to 90.8.
“Going forward, consumer confidence and spending may continue to suffer from rising prices and the ongoing pandemic,” said Lynn Franco, director of economic research at The Conference Board.
