USA: Consumer prices rise again in August

WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (Reuters) – U.S. consumer prices rose again in August and year-on-year inflation slowed less than expected, monthly consumer price statistics from the labor department.

The CPI price index, which was flat in July, rose 0.1% last month and its year-on-year rise fell to 8.3% from 8.5%, as economists polled by Reuters on average predicted a price decline of 0.1% month-on-month and inflation of 8.1% year-on-year.

These figures could confirm the scenario already favored by the markets of a further three-quarter point rise in interest rates following the Federal Reserve meeting next week.
