USA: Decline in jobless claims to 223,000


PARIS, Feb 10 (Reuters) – Unemployment claims fell in the United States during the week to February 5, to 223,000 against 239,000 (revised) the previous week, the Labor Department announced on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 230,000 jobless claims.

Registrations for the week to January 29 have been revised up from an initial estimate of 238,000.

The moving average over four weeks stands at 253.250 against 255.250 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.621 million during the week to January 29 (last week for which these figures are available) against the same proportion the previous week. (Report Lucia Mutikani; French version Claude Chendjou, edited by Sophie Louet)
