USA: Decline in jobless claims to 229,000


June 23 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims fell to 229,000 in the week to June 18 from a revised 231,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 227,000 jobless claims.

Registrations for the week to June 11 have been revised up from an initial estimate of 229,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 223,500 against 219,000 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.315 million during the week to June 11 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.31 million (revised) the previous week. (Report Olivier Cherfan in Gdansk)
