June 16 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims fell less than expected in the week to June 11, to 229,000 from a revised 232,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.
Economists expected on average a larger decline to 215,000 jobless claims.
Registrations for the week to June 4 have been revised up from an initial estimate of 229,000.
The four-week moving average stands at 218,500 against 215,750 (revised) the previous week.
The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.312 million during the week to June 4 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.309 million (revised) the previous week.
