USA-Decrease in job offers in March-Jolts – 05/01/2024 at 4:11 p.m.

The number of job openings in the United States fell slightly more than expected in March, a sign that tensions in American labor markets are beginning to dissipate.

Job openings, a measure of labor demand, fell to 8.488 million in March, according to the Labor Department’s latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (Jolts) report released Wednesday.

Those for February were revised upwards, to 8.813 million, against 8.756 million initially announced.

Economists polled by Reuters expected 8.686 million job openings in March.

The official April employment report will be released on Friday. The consensus expects 243,000 non-agricultural jobs created in April, compared to 303,000 the previous month.

The unemployment rate is expected at 3.8%, as in March.
